It's begun....

I have been spending a little time in my Christmas boxes, I thought I had so much more than I am finding, maybe it is just that I need a change. I am using a lot of bright red in the living room this year. I saw this idea in one of my Christmas decorating magazines and remembered I had a big gold frame that I had thrifted this summer down in the basement. The wreath was a 60% off deal this weekend at Joanne Fabrics. I still hadn't hung anything on the wall since painting this summer (I am indecisive if nothing else) so I started thinking about what I wanted on the walls for the holiday season. I think this turned out pretty well. The daughters looked at me like I was looney when I told them about it, but loved it once it was up:>) I also had some old silk poinsettias stored away, and had gotten this little carriage at a yard sale for $1 this summer and set it aside. I stuck some foam in it and added the flowers and now it sits in the bay window. I am having a great time finding new ways to use things and doing something a little different this year. Decorations I have used in the past just seem a little tired and I love to create new things. I will still use our family ornaments on the tree, but I think everyone enjoys a change. What have you done to decorate this year?

  1. So much fun...we have been working like crazy on the Christmas decorations! We are creating a scripture tree with tiny frames and nativity sets!

    Have a blessed day!

  2. Hi Kathy, oh how lovely, the little carriage is adorable all decorated and the frame is beautiful! Very creative! We are also trying to incorporate natural materials into our decor this year, we have decorated some pinecones with silver glitter and vintage ribbons and used real abandoned birds nests for a different look! Will post them in mid December. Have a lovely Sunday :) Jenn and Jacqui

  5. Nothing! Nope, nada.

But we have taken down some old dusty tired light fixtures that were so ugly they should've been taken down four years ago! Guess that is our start to getting festive. Out with the hideous!

I just found out I am hosting a big family party in two weeks so I suppose I better get busy on decorating for the event!

    Happy Sunday evening

  6. Hi Kathy,
I love the wreath in the frame! It is just perfect. And the little sleigh/carriage is perfect for Christmas....or really anytime, depending on what you place in it.

I said I was going to start decorating, but so far nothing...lol. I have ideas. I have ordered a few things, that I don't have yet. By next weekend alot will be done...

  7. Oh, Kathy, I love that wreath idea -- may I steal it? Also love your little carriage -- what a great find! My dear husband goes back to work today(after a week off for surgery) and my son back to school, so maybe I'll find the time to play with some decorations...

  9. What cute decorations. No, dear one, you did not miss the recipe...actually, chocolate tart is a rather indulgent description. It's the chocolate square in the biscuit recipe I cannot seem to get enough of. :) It's just that I can make it, bake it, serve it in less than 20 minutes.

My decorations are "same old" but I like them..rustic and natural!
I may add some different decorations this year...so many great ideas I'm finding in blogland.

  19. Hi Kathleen, I'm decorating too, I just finished putting out my Christmas village and unpacking other collections. I sprayed some pinecones and put them in a large pink depression glass bowl with some greenery, I liked the way it turned out.
I love your frame and wreath~very effective! Have fun decorating. Linda
